OUR STORY

About Us

A place to breathe.

Hello & Welcome!

Thank you for coming to my page. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. Presently, I cannot give you my real name for safety reasons. One day I will be able to, and I look forward to that day. In the meantime, here is a little bit about myself and why I’ve started this site. This site is a work in progress and undoubtedly, it will change, including the details I can give you about myself. Four and a half years ago I had begun a site that, again, for safety reasons cannot tell you its content. I stopped that site because of fear, fear of another person who legally accused me of slander. I did not, but the fear was great and a greater fear of losing my child paralyzed me. Today, I’m a different person and the reason for this site is so important that it overrides my fear.

This site is about what I’m doing for my healing, recovery, rebuilding, and reinventing myself and my life. I have already come a long way, but today I am ready to go public in hopes of helping other people.

As I continue adding to this site, I will share the person I am rediscovering, reclaiming, rebuilding, reinventing. I have many interests and hobbies that I will share with you. Some interests are new, others old, and still others are experiments that become a part of me or are discarded. These things aid in my healing and maybe aid in yours as well. It’s about the process not the end result.

My credentials:

I have a Ph.D. and a M.A. in psychology: human development from a prestigious university, an M.A in social work and experimental psychology. I’ve spent 30+ years as researcher and data analyst. Again, for safety reasons I cannot say the areas in which I am an expert, though they are related to everything I live and do with this site. I LOVE research and my life situation required me to temporarily leave that world.

Did I say that I LOVE research. My situation has granted me an avenue to return to research, while at the same time helping others in a similar situation that I was/am in, and hopefully reaching resolution, of an arduous, life-enhancing journey. As I write this introduction, I have been in custody court for 4 years 7 months. No, there was no divorce. We were never married. I can only imagine if there was a marriage to complicate things!

My experience:

My custody case is what is considered a High Conflict Custody Case. In general, custody cases with files that are more than 3 inches thick are considered to be high conflict cases. My pleadings and orders stack up to at least 7 times that amount and still growing. Last year the judge ordered us to have a custody evaluation – something my attorney said was needed the first day we walking out of court over 4 1/2 years ago.

The evaluation report was not what I expected.

It was based on the evaluator’s opinion that wrote off the the objective psychological test results as “measurement error” and proceeded to ignore the Court ordered parenting time and responsibilities set in my favor and rewrite the plan that flipped everything to the co-parent’s favor. As a qualified person to analyze and interpret psychological data, I closely examined the psychological tests  that included the MMPI-2RF.

While analyzing our data, I began thinking about how many other parents with a High Conflict Co-parent (HCcP) have had unfavorable evaluations and yet, did not have my experience, training, and education to analyze the raw data in order to contest the evaluator’s report. I think there are more of you than I want to imagine.

The silver lining:

So, to make a long story short and the second reason for this site – for me to help those of you out there who are in high conflict custody cases who are the non-HCcP and need help with your custody evaluation. I offer a unbiased report of the psychological tests you and the other parent took. I don’t want to know your narrative as that could bias my analysis. As time goes on, I will post an example of a report. I provide the analysis in an outline format that you or  your attorney can put into the proper legal narrative. At present time, I am taking donations for my work. I will eventually have set fees, but I haven’t worked out the details.  It is my plan that once I have a set fee scale, I will set a percentage of the proceeds into a fund that will help others in similar circumstance but without the financial means to offset the cost of a second opinion. I intimately know what it is like to be depleted financial resources.

Thank you. I hope that you enjoy the recovery, rebuilding and reinventing that I share with you.
